The company with the distinctive swallow logo is a manufacturer of caravans and motorhomes. With more than fifty years of experience, it is a long-standing player in the leisure industry. As part of the Knaus Tabbert Group, they have also been producing motorhomes for almost 30 years. Their current mission is lightweight construction, and the next expected step is the application of this technology in Knaus motorhomes.
The architect and engineer Helmut Knaus started a caravan business in 1960. In 1970, the current Knaus factory in Jandelsbrunn was established.
In 1996, a close partnership developed between Tiag and Knaus, resulting in a merger in 2001.
In 2008, the company went bankrupt. A buyer was found in the Dutch investment group HTP Investments. On March 2, 2009, production in Jandelsbrunn was restarted. The company once again reached the European top and achieved a turnover of approximately 181 million euros in 2010, with around 1,000 employees and a production volume of about 10,400 caravans and motorhomes. For this, Knaus Tabbert received the German-Dutch Economic Award 2011, an annual prize awarded by the German-Dutch Chamber of Commerce.
In July 2011, Knaus Tabbert acquired the Bavarian motorhome manufacturer Bavaria Camp from Obermeitingen. At that time, Knaus Tabbert also entered into a strategic alliance with luxury motorhome manufacturer Morelo Reisemobile GmbH.
