Cost of auto glass damage: Free if you’re insured

The cost of repairing or replacing your car window depends on several important factors.

The most important is the coverage of your car insurance. If you’re insured for glass damage, repair or replacement is free of charge. Not sure how you’re insured? No problem, just send us your insurance card when requesting a quote and we’ll check it for you, free of charge!

If you’re not insured, the cost depends on:

  • Which window is damaged: the windscreen, side window, panoramic roof, or rear window
  • The type of damage: can it be repaired, or does the entire window need replacing?
  • If replacement is required: does the window include heating and/or sensors?

We always try to repair first rather than replace, saving you both time and money. Topglas makes things easy for you by handling everything with your insurance company directly after the repair or replacement, including filing the claim!

Cost of repairing a chip if you’re not insured

Topglas repairs a chip for the sharp rate of €85 incl. VAT. For each additional chip repaired during the same appointment, we charge only €40 incl. VAT.

Topglas offers a lifetime warranty on any chip we repair if it should crack further.

If the window later needs to be replaced and you choose Topglas to do the job, the cost of the earlier repair will be deducted from your windscreen replacement invoice.

Cost of replacing a windscreen if you’re not insured

As an indication:

  • Replacing a windscreen without sensors or heating on a small city car is roughly €400.
  • Replacing a windscreen with heating but without sensors on a mid-range car is typically €400–€700.

If you give us your license plate number or VIN, we can determine exactly which window your car uses and provide an accurate price.

Feel free to contact us for a no-obligation quote; we offer very competitive rates for windscreen replacement.

Keep in mind: a single car model can have more than 15 different types of windscreens installed!

Are you insured?

In general, glass damage is covered if your car insurance includes Third-Party + Limited Comprehensive or All-Risk coverage in addition to basic liability (WA). Some insurers also apply an excess for repairs or replacements, this varies per insurer.

That’s why it’s important to check whether your policy covers glass damage and under what conditions. Not sure? We offer a free policy check* so you know exactly where you stand.
