About Dethleffs

Dethleffs is part of the Hymer group. Because he liked to have his family with him during business trips, Arist Dethleffs built his first caravan in 1931. This mobile hotel room attracted quite a bit of attention, making Dethleffs a pioneer of caravan travel. In 1936, the first caravans went into production, and in 1955, the first Nomad caravan rolled off the line: a series that still exists today.

With the invention of the first caravan in Germany, then called “Wohnauto,” the company’s founder, Arist Dethleffs, laid an essential cornerstone for caravans in Germany in 1931.

In 1971, the company was sold to Wolfgang Thrun and Jakob Eicker (TEC). In 1980, entrepreneurs Wolfgang Thrun and Jakob Eicker, together with Erwin Hymer, founded CMC, introducing the brands Dethleffs, Eriba, Hymer, and TEC.
